An early morning fire gutted a shophouse at Tampines Lane yesterday, injuring three people and leaving at least 10 people homeless.
The three people injured were Mr Muthu Maran,a veteran fireman, Mr Quek Seow Meng a vegetable seller, Mr Chee Seng Toh, a polytechnic student. Mr Muthu was rushed to Changi hospital as he had burns on his shoulder and he also supstained minor bruises to his legs. Mr Quek was slightly burnt on both hands and he was treated as an outpatient and was then sent home. Mr chee suffered a broken ankle likewise he was also treated as an outpatient and was sent home.
The fire started at about 5.30 am. Mr Ivan Wong was a resident of one of the shophouses while he was sleeping, he heard shouts of fire. He said, "I was awakened by shouts of help. I saw the plank going up in flames. I quickly took my blanket and started to put out the flames. There was heat and thick smoke everywhere but I managed to run out of the building to call for help." Mr Ivan Wong escaped unscathed in the fire.
Three families living on the top floor rushed out of the burning building after awakened from their sleep. Mr Quek's hands were burnt so he battled with the flames with his blanket on his way down the wooden stairs, unfortunetely the stairs had caught fire. Mr Chee ran down the stairs s he fell and broke his ankle. "We had no time to salvage our belongings. By the time the fire engine arrived, the whole building was engulfed in flames," Mr Wong said.
The firemen were directing their hoses at the burning building as Mr Muthu entered it and went up the top floor. The floor under him suddenly collapsed as it was charred. He plunged 10 metres to the ground. One of his colleages immediately pulled him to safety. The firemen brought the fire under control an hour later. the cause of the fire is not known. The police are investigating.

THE STRAITS TIME IS UNLIKE ANY OTHERS BOOK BECAUSE IT REPORTED THE NEWS THAT HAPPEN THAT DAY UNLIKE STORYBOOK. MY FAVOURITE SECTION OF THE WHOLE NEWSPAPER IS THE HOME SECTION ,SPORT SECTION AND ALSO THE LIFE SECTION .I LIKE TO READ THE HOME SECTION BECAUSE THE HOME SECTION TELLS US THE NEWS THAT HAPPEN IN SINGAPORE EXAMPLE DURING THE SARS PERIOD IT KEEPS US UPDATED OF THE NEWS. I LIKE THE LIFE SECTION BECAUSE IT TELLS US NEWS THAT IS MOSTLY ON THE ENTERTAINMENT SUCH AS WHAT HAPPEN TO THE CELEBRITY.I LIKE THE SPORT SECTION BECAUSE IT TELLS ME MORE ABOUT THE PLAYERS AND THE SCORE OF GAMES THAT WERE PLAYED THE DAY BEFORE.MOST OF THE TIME I READ IT BUT THEN IT ALSO HELPE ME IN MANY WAYS SUCH AS IF I WERE TO DO ANY ENGLISH ARTICLE ON THAT DAY I WOULD CUT OUT WHAT I HAD READ AND JUST THINK THROUGH WHAT I HAVE READ OR WHAT IS THE NEWS ABOUT.THEREFORE TO ME THE SRAITS TIME IS SOMETHING THAT IS CONSIDER MY FAVOURITE READING MATERIAL.
Aiya, at las i am home. after a long day of ncc training i was like ... could not even play any sport or even hav the energy to use the computer jus wanna sleep sleep and still sleep. very tired, i will stop posting now.... ryan
I AM A BOY...
I am a ordinary boy.In the class, i am counted as one of the most talkative one.The reason i talked in class is that some lesson are boring, but another reason i talked because people asked me some questions. I can be consider a happy go lucky boy and that my life in school is mostly the same of the life in school of many school going teens.Sometimes, in class i also build castle in the air as the lesson is either boring or is either i had finished the post. miss ang , i strongly hoped that the lesson you have prepared can be more intersting.even though, everyone seemed to be attentive but then they were all very bored. if you give them a chance to rest for five minutes most of them would doze off.like i said, to us five minutes maybe be a long if we were told to study and if we were told to chat among friends,the time would be every short.so that, you can change all the ordinary boy like me and many to be a person of use. And the end to add on, there are things money could not buy and example were friends and academic result.so i would also worked very hard for my future.

so sianz...yesterdae wasted my saturdae and sundae... Actually cannot count wasted b cause it was my cousin birthdae and his parent booked a chalet so she asked mee to stay overnite..then i realise what he booked was pasir ris one not downtown one ...tats y i count it as wasted.....
